P. Blackie, 75, of Blanco, passed from this life at 5:25 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock. He was born in Blanco Canyon, to Pete and Mary (Platero) Blackie.
Frank worked as a mechanic for El Paso Natural Gas Company in Blanco Canyon for 35 years and earned his retirement.
Mr. Blackie served as an elected official as a vice-president for Huerfano Chapter for 20 years. He was very dedicated to his responsibilities. Mr. Blackie cared for his community and brought water and power to many residents of Blanco Canyon and Carson area. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella P. Blackie; parents, Pete and Mary (Platero) Blackie; brothers, Roy and Jimmie Blackie, sisters, Bessie, Pauline, Helen and Lillie Blackie; daughters, Fleurette J. Jones; and grandson, Jasper Chavez.
He is survived by his sons, Harry (Winona) Chavez, Jr., Harold J. Chavez, Harrison Bitsillie and Orlando Jones; daughters, Harriet (Sam) Kendrick, Helen Chavez, Grace J. Chavez (Ramie Nelson), Isabell Chavez (Sam Benallie), Jennifer Bitsillie and Jennifer (Noel) Brown; 30 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, April 22, at the Christian Worship Center in Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle. Pastor Elmer Brown Jr. will officiate.
Interment will be at the Brethren-In-Christ Mission Cemetery in Otis.
A reception will be held at the Huerfano Chapter House.
Pallbearers are Harrison Bitsillie, Jr., Harris Bitsillie, Jeremy Jack, Shonie Curley, Jr., Stonie Yazzie, and Merlyn Curley; accompanied by Harry Chavez Jr., Harold Chavez, Harrison Bitsillie Sr., Gilbert Nez, Harrison Blackie, Hilary Bitsillie, Gerald F. Feliz, Andrew Simpson, Orlando Jones and all Huerfano Chapter officials who served with him during his term.
