James Clark signed the official Register of the Arthur G. Wavel Colony Roll on Dec. 31, 1830. At this time he gave his age as 31. This Register is in the Spanish Archives in Austin, TX.
James made a plat of Old Jonesboro and in 1833 founded Clarksville. In 1825 James manufactured salt at Little River Saline, Miller Co., AR. Clark was college educated and a friend of Andrew Jackson, Pres. of US--also Jim Bowie & Sam Houston. At his death he left 25,000 acres, large business interests, & cash. He was educated at University of VA.
James married Isabella "Ibby" Haddon HOPKINS, widow of John Hanks on 15-Jul-1829, in Sevier County, AR.
They were the parents of 5 children:
Frank Hopkins Clark
Sarah Duty Clark
David Clark
Pat Benjamin Clark, MD.
Capt. James "Jim" Clark, Jr.
After the death of James, Ibby married Dr. George Gordon.
