COURIER-JOURNAL NEWSPAPER OBITUARY - 04/01/1990 - DELAHANTY, Charles James "Jim", Age 66 years old. He was born on Montgomery Avenue in Portland, Shippingport on March 04, 1924 to Margaret Fahey Delahanty and Charles Edward Delahanty. He died on March 31, 1990, at 12:01 a.m. Saturday Night at Jewish Hospital with his wife, daughter, sister and nephew surronding him. He was a retired Metal Pattern Maker for the Falls City Patter Works, before that: Probst Patter Works and Vogt's Pattern Works. He joined the United States Marine Corps when he was 17 years onld in 1941 right after graduating from Ahren's High School. He was a decorated Marine with the Silver and Bronze Star, Purple Hearts, Presidential Citation, last left in his platoon, and several other medals. He fought in the Pacific Theater in the Japanese Islands and Iwo Jima (He was there when they put the American Flag up). He was also a proud Democrat. Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Louise Duncan, Daughter, Linda Delahanty Schrader, his only sibling, a sister, Mary Agnes (Agnes Marie) Delahanty DeMarsh, a nephew, Joseph DeMarsh, a niece Patricia DeMarsh Mann and a niece Agnes Marie DeMarsh Kiesler, in-laws include: Charles "Dale" Mann, Phillip Charles Kiesler. His funeral will be at The Church of Our Lady's on Rudd Avenue in the Portland Area of Louisville, Ky. He will be entombed at Evergreen Cemetery on Preston Highway, in Louisville, Ky. He was an Irish Roman Catholic by faith.

Husband of: Mary Louise Duncan Delahanty. Beloved Father of Linda Louise Delahanty-Schrader. Son of: Charles Edward (Carl) Delahanty and Margaret Estelle Fahey Delahanty Kolb. Brother of: Agnes Marie "Mary Agnes" Delahanty DeMarsh. Uncle of: Joseph DeMarsh, Agnes Marie DeMarsh Kiesler, and Patricia Ann DeMarsh Mann. Grandson of: Michael Fahey and Mary Elizabeth Volpert Fahey, And: Edward John Delahanty, and Catherine "Katie" Agnes Stoll Delahanty.

Awarded US Marine in WW II, Marshall Islands, Iwo Jima, and all the other Japanese Islands. He was with the 4th Division, and received the Presidential Citation, The silver and bronze star, the Purple Heart (He was wounded many times and went back).
