Shania Lanay Adkins, 11, of Mooresville died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 at her home following an extended illness. Born Jan. 17, 1992 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of Stacy and Carolyn Adkins of Mooresville. Shania was a sixth grader at Mooresville Intermediate School.
Surviving in addition to her parents are a sister, Shaneka Latrice Alexander of Mooresville; grandparents Robert "Butch" and Helen Brown of Mooresville, Effie Mae Berryman of Mooresville, Michael and Elizabeth Cowan of Salisbury; great-grandparents, Mary Brown of Mooresville and Nathaniel (Jean) Adkins of Salisbury; uncles, aunts, cousins, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14 at Watkins Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Thomas Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park. The body will remain at Clyburn and Bigham Funeral Home, 168 W. Statesville Ave., until taken to the church to lie in state at 1 p.m. Members of the family will receive friends from 1:30-2p.m. at the church, but will assemble at the residence, 359 Nesbit St., at other times.
