U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Cornell University in 1874, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1877 and commenced to practice law in Toledo, Ohio. He was appointed assistant prosecuting attorney of Lucas County, in 1882 and served in office for six years. In 1805, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fourth Congress and to the five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1907. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
