U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1842 and commenced to practice law in Millersburg, Ohio. During the America-Mexican War, he served as a Major in the U.S. Army, (1846-48). After the war, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first Congress, serving (1849-51). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 52.
