US Congressman. Born in Maxville, Ohio, he was a teacher and superintendent of schools for many years, when he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1899 and commenced to practice in Logan, Hocking County, Ohio. In 1915, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth Congress, sering until 1917, reelected to the Sixty-sixth and Sixty-seventh Congresses, serving (1919-23). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1928. He died at age 69 in Logan, Ohio.
