Daughter Mary and Frances also assumed Smith. Her marriage announcement listed “Ms Frances E Smith of New York City”. Brother Augustus Fredrick Rose gave his children the last name of his wife Mary Ann Shaler. William and Charlotte's son William Lucius Rose married William Wallace Irwin's sister Agnes Mary Irwin in 1825 but died a few months later.
Cemetery records give Pittsburgh as place of birth. Her remains and those of son William (D: 1841) were brought to Allegheny Cemetery Agnes Irwin Plot 19-16 on 19 Sept 1851. She had four children Frances Mason Irwin, Rear Adm John Irwin (buried at Arlington Cemetery), Charlotte Wyman Irwin (married Dr. William Edwin Taylor, USN) and William Irwin. Frances' granddaughter Grace Taylor Parmenter is buried in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband Henry Parmenter.
Her nephew was the famous 19th century bridge builder Charles Shaler Smith. He built over 100 bridges including four over the Mississippi and one each over the Missouri, Kentucky and St. Lawrence Rivers.
Frances' Uncle was Theophilus Washington Smith. He studied law in New York under Aaron Burr and moved to Illinois where he eventually became Illinois Supreme Court Justice. He and Gov. Rod Blagojevich were the only office holders in Illinois to be impeached. Unlike Blago, Theophilius was not convicted by the Senate. On 18 Feb 2020 President Donald J Trump commuted the sentence of ex Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Frances' grandparents Capt. Joseph Rose and Barbara Egburson Rose are buried at Trinity Churchyard in Manhatten, New York, USA.
