SHAWNEE, Okla. —
Stephen Dion Moore, 59, of Wanette, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in Lawton. He was born Aug. 24, 1951, in Shawnee. At the age of three, Stephen's family moved to Santa Maria, Calif., where Stephen grew up until the age of 15. In 1966, they moved to Wanette, where he graduated from high school with the class of 1969. One month after graduation, at the age of 17, Stephen joined the United States Marine Corp. In October 1970, he was wounded in combat while on tour of duty in Vietnam. Stephen received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1971 after proudly serving two years.
After returning home to Oklahoma, Stephen attended and graduated from Okmulgee Technology Institute majoring in Art and Advertising. He later moved back to the Lexington-Wanette area in 1978 and began working for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Stephen retired in year 2000 from Joseph Harp Correctional Center, only to work another 10 years for the Oklahoma Correctional Industries.
On Dec. 1, 1997, he married Kaye Sexton Carroll, formally from Hollis, and they made their home in Lexington until they moved to Blanchard this past year.
Throughout his life, Stephen had a love for history and art. He was considered a professional historic figurine painter and was a member of the Tulsa Historical Miniatures Club.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilford Dion Moore; step-father, Walter J. Wustenberg; and step-sister, Evelyn Jackson.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye, of the home in Blanchard; mother, Peggy Wustenberg, of Wanette; John Wustenbeg, of Wanette; son, Damon Moore, of California; three step-children and their families, Tamera and Bobby Jackson and children, Dallas and Dakota, Dennis Lee and children, Taylor and Abby and their mother, Carla, and James and Jill Carroll and children, Rocky and Alex; two aunts, Mildred Eversole, of Pearson, and Ola Mae Clair, of Purcell; and also several cousins and a host of co-workers and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Wanette Cemetery. Arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home, Purcell. Source: www.news-star.com
