Eunice G. Artress, 70, of Gaylord died Monday, March 7, 2005 at her home.

She was born in Detroit on Sept. 28, 1934. She was raised in Detroit and had also lived in Dearborn.

Her family was one of the first to build on Big Lake and they vacationed in the area for many years.

On March 3, 1951 she married Glenn Artress. The couple made Gaylord their home in 1964.

Mrs. Artress had been a teacher's aid at the North Ohio School and worked for Dr. Donald Cousineau. She also tried her hand at writing and several years ago was the "Big Lake" columnist for the Herald Times.

She cherished her family and loved taking care of them. Mrs. Artress was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church in Gaylord.

Mrs. Artress is survived by her husband of 54 years, Glenn; daughters, Glennda (Richard) Bush of Howard City, Hope (Bill) Kirt of Gaylord, and Violet (Bill) Deemer of Gaylord; and son Billie (Helen) Artress of Kalkaska; grandchildren, Glenn G. (Yoki) Artress, Nadia Washburn, LaRissa (Matt) Paras, Stefani (Brad) Larson, William Deemer II, Eric Artress, Rylan Deemer, Lorne Washburn, Bernie Kirt, Isaac Washburn, Asia Artress, and Christian Artress; four great-grandchildren, Alexa, Xaveria, Jack William and Paige; and one sister, Doris Johnson, of Texas.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 11 at 1 p.m. from Peace Lutheran Church, the Rev. Thomas Mammoser officiating.

Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home was held on Thursday from 1 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Friday beginning at noon.
