Mr. Marion Leroy Bagley, 88, of 'Comus Road, Dickerson, died Saturday, Jan. 27, at Suburban Hospital, Rockville.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy S. Bagley, who died in 1984.
Born on Jan. 22,1902 in David City, Neb., he was the son of the late Samuel Thomas and Amy Tannahill Bagley.
Mr. Bagley was a noted Washington, D.C./Maryland architect and retired from the firm of Bagley Soule and Lee in 1984. He attended the University of Nebraska and the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Bagley was a founding member and one of the first board members of the Chevy Chase Bank and Trust, now known as Citizens Bank of Maryland. He was also a founding charter member of the Potomac Valley chapter of the AIA and a member of the Washington Building Congress.
He received many tributes, honors and awards, including the Oliver Owen Kubn award for the best architectural design of the year, of which he won three.
In addition to his many professional activities, Mr. Bagley and his wife fulfilled a life-long dream of owning a farm when they moved to Comus in 1945.
He is survived by two daughters, Norma J. Checkley of Comus and Lois M. Boston of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; one sister, Evelyn Chavez of California; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bagley was preceded in death by one brother, Loyal Bagley.
There will be no visitation or viewing. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2 at the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church, 1 Chevy Chase Circle, Washington, D.C. The family win meet with friends and relatives in Geneva Hall, located in the church, after the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AIA, Potomac Valley Chapter, Marion L. Bagley cholarship Fund, 8601 Georgia Ave., Suite 201 B, Silver Spring, Md. 20910. Arrangements were handled by the Pumphrey's Colonial Funeral Home, Rockville.
