HAMPTON - Effie B. Barnhill, 86, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011, at the Gardens of Warwick Forest. She was born in Warrenton, N.C., and had been a resident of Hampton for 52 years.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was active with the Mary Haw and Maria Wyatt Sunday School Class, and Church Circle #6.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie G. Barnhill; parents, Curtis and Elizabeth Byrum; and brothers, Willie A. Byrum and Arthur Shearin.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Deborah Bond; son, Ray Barnhill and his wife, Karen and her children, Chelsea and Ryan Carter; grandchildren, Emily Bond, and Blake and Blair Barnhill; great-grandchild, Elizabeth Caroline Bond; sister, Louise Criswell and Fannie Ferri; and brother, Malvin Shearin.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Effie's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, at the funeral home, with Pastor John Pouchot officiating. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at Rocky Mount Memorial Park, in Rocky Mount, N.C.
