Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. A member of the 30th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, he received the Medal of Honor for Heroic Action when he and 149 others volunteered to storm the Confederate troops north of Vicksburg on May 22, 1863. Although they failed to capture the enemy in 2 attempts all members of the storming party were recommended to receive the Medal of Honor.
