Born circa 1773 in Berkley County Virginia (Now Berkley County, WV) to Benedict Hook and Peggy Linder. He married Maria or Mary "Polly" Morrison February 26, 1798 in Ouachita Parish. The marriage was performed by Jean Baptiste Filhiol, Commandant of Fort Miro. George lived along the Bayou Bartholomew and owned many vast tracts of land in the area. He served as Ouachita Parish Sheriff in the early 1800's. He and Polly were the parents of Elizabeth Ann Lyle Hook and Jane Hook.
After Polly died in 1804, he married the widow of Andrew Morhouse, Eleanor Hook Morhouse (May 7, 1814, Ouachita Parish). They were the parents of Laura Elizabeth Hook, Julia Hook and George J. Hook. George Sr. died October 31, 1820 in Ouachita Parish and was buried in the Bartholomew Cemetery near his first wife. After his death, his widow Eleanor, married widower Thomas Grayson in 1834 and is buried at the foot of his grave in the Grayson Cemetery, Caldwell Parish.
The headstone was recorded in the 1950s by Mrs. H. Flood Madison for the DAR's "Louisiana Tombstone Inscriptions" series, Vol. 6, Page 146. It was also recorded in a July, 1991 survey where it was also noted his wife shares his headstone.
