U.S. Congressman. He was employed as a machinist, when joined the US Navy and served in World War II, (1942-44). After the war, he graduated from Boston College, from Boston College Law School, in 1949 and opened a private law practice. He was a member of the Massachusetts State Senate, (1951-58) and was a parliamentarian at the Republican Massachusetts State conventions, (1956-58). In 1959, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-sixth and to the next sixteen succeeding Congresses, serving until his death from cancer at age 69.
