Frances Louise Thompson was born in Berkeley, CA, the younger daughter of Anna R. and Dr. John E. Thompson. Her mother was an artist and her father practiced medicine in San Francisco. Frances graduated from the Anna Head School in Berkeley.

As a young woman, she studied piano in San Francisco under one of Nadia Boulanger's students, performed in concerts and recitals, and attended the University of California Berkeley, before she was stricken with polio.

After her recovery, she married William Cook Bennett in 1934. Frances and Bill's children, Thomas Hugh and Anna Katharine, were born in Oakland, CA in 1935 and 1942. In 1947, the family moved to Vancouver, Canada, where they lived until the late 1960s.

After Bill's retirement, Frances and Bill moved to Seattle to be near their grandchildren, Tom and Marilyn's three children, Kristen Louise, Karen Anne, and Karl Erik.

After Bill passed away in 1979, Frances continued to live in the Seattle area, where she thrived in her role as "Tutu" to her grandchildren. Among her many creative activities, she designed and made miniature needlepoint rugs for local groups and charities, including rugs that furnished a miniature of George Washington's Mount Vernon home, which was displayed at Mount Vernon. A collection of her rugs is housed in the Miniature Gallery of the Rosalie Whyel Museum of Doll Art in Bellevue.

During the last decade of her life, Frances took great pleasure in the company of her six great-grandchildren, Kari, Leif, Maren, Frances, Amelia and Elsa, all of Edmonds, WA.

In July of 2009, Frances moved to the Denver area to live with her daughter and her daughter's husband, Ted Wolverton.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Karl Bennett in 2008.

A burial service will take place at 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 4 at Restlawn Cemetery, 23800 104th Avenue West, Edmonds WA. Memorial contributions may be made to Frances Bennett Scholarship, Seattle-Nantes Dollars for Scholars, 23451-27th Place W, Brier, WA 98036, Brier, WA 98036; First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach, 18354 8th Ave NW, Shoreline, WA 98177 or St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Denver, 1270 Poplar Street, Denver, CO 80220.
