Willard L. "Brownie" Brown

Willard L. "Brownie" Brown, 88, formerly of Eaton, died Thursday, Nov. 15, at Oxford View Nursing Center at Oxford.
Born June 15, 1913, in New Paris, he was the son of Ernest L. and Ruth E. (Reid) Brown. He was a police officer for Eaton in the early 1940s, a farmer, an auto mechanic for the Buick, Ford and Olds dealerships in Eaton, and owned an auto repair shop known as "The 500 Garage" in later years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge and First Presbyterian Church in Eaton.
His first wife, Anna Elizabeth (Hoch) Brown, preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 1972. His parents and a sister, Grace Brown Bechtol, are also deceased.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Opal Detamore Williams Brown, whom he married June 20, 1976; a son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Melva Brown of Oxford; a daughter and son-in-law, Mona Jean and Larry Dawson of Eaton; three grandchildren, Anita Taylor and husband Vance, Douglas Brown and Patrick Dawson; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Taylor, Katherine Taylor, Mary Page Taylor, Jenny Howell and Aaron Jacob Dawson; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 19, at Girton-Schmidt-Boucher Funeral Home, Eaton, with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Burial was in Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.
