America LuWeta Lowe Boaen, 86, went to be with Jesus Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Effingham Care Center after a valiant battle with an extended illness. Her devotion to her family and her belief in the Lord supported her during her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
She was born in Bulloch County, but lived most of her life in Effingham. She was the daughter of Marvin and Winnie Lowe of Brooklet. She is survived by her daughter, Eugenia Boaen Crosby (Robert); her grandson, Krey Lowther (Faye); and a great-grandson, Krey Lee Lowther, Jr. , all of Springfield; and her step-grandchildren, Gay Lowther Finch (Robbie), Angell Lowther Usher, (Steve), and Tonya Lowther Jackson (James). Another special person in her life was a 4-H exchange student from Pipestone, Minnesota, who became like a second daughter, Barbara Gruis Strickland (Tim), also of Springfield.
Her love of education and young people showed through every aspect of her life. She was an active leader in 4-H of Effingham and the local and state Retired Teacher Associatons. She was richly involved in her home church, Pine Street Baptist for 66 years. She also loved being active in her community as a member of the Clyo Homemakers Club, and loved to travel.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Ernest Boaen, Jr.; a brother, Jack Lowe; and sister-in-law, Dora Boaen Reiser.
A huge thanks to the amazing staff of the Effingham Care Center for treating our mother like their own.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Pine Street Baptist Church. Mrs. Weta will lie in state from 10 a.m.
Interment will follow in Effingham Memorial Gardens.
