Middletown, May 12.-Joshua Clayton, Jr., a prominent citizen of this town, died on Monday morning at 6 o'clock at the residence of his son-in-law, J. Groome Steele, at Chesapeake City, Md. Mr. Clayton was 70 years old last March and was born near Mt. Pleasant, Del. He followed farming successfully nearly all his life, until about 15 years ago, when he retired and came to Middletown to live. Three years later his wife died and he went to the Middletown Hotel to live, until about four months ago, when he was taken to the residence of his daughter.
Mr. Clayton had been a great sufferer for months from heart trouble which was the cause of his death. He leaves three children-Mrs. J. Groome Steele and Julius and Frank Clayton. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, with services at the house and interment at Bethel cemetery."

Joshua Clayton, 71 years old, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James G. Steele, at Chesapeake City, Md., on Monday. Mr. Clayton was a son of the late Joshua Clayton, and was born at the old homestead on Bohemia Manor, though a greater part of his life was spent in New Castle county, this State. He married a Miss Moyer, of Pennsylvania, who died several years ago. THree children survive him, Mrs. J. Groome Steele, Julius W. Clayton and Frank S. Clayton."
