Thomas J. Woods, 78, of Fayetteville, passed peacefully Wed., March 23, 2011 after a brief illness with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), surrounded by his loving children. Services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 1 pm at Warren Memorial United Methodist Church. He was born and raised in Savannah and later joined the Marine Corps. A Korean War Veteran, he also retired from the US Postal Service after 33 years and became a substitute teacher for Atlanta City and Fulton County schools. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jeannette W. Woods. He was s devoted father, grandfather, and brother. He leaves to cherish his memory his five children: Thomas J. Woods Jr. (Debra) of Lithonia, Glenn B. Woods Sr. of Atlanta, Melanie W. Hutchings (William) of Macon, Kenneth M. Woods and Keith M. Woods of Fayetteville;' and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and four brothers, Eugene Woods of Albuquerque NM, Margie Davis of Decatur, Leon Woods (Doreather) of Savannah, Edwin Woods (Denise) of Warner Robins, Helen Doe (Curtis) of Macon, and Herman Woods (Clara) of Savannah, and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home Monday, 6-7:30 pm. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ALS Association of GA.
