HAMPTON - Thelma Ellen Burton Blanks, 90, went to be with the Lord on April 4, 2011. She was born on Jan. 30, 1921, in Halifax County, Va., and had been a resident of the Peninsula for more than 60 years.
Mrs. Blanks most recently attended Deer Park Baptist Church and Warwick Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond Marcus Blanks Sr.; daughter, Emma Clay Smith; parents, John Morgan and Myrtle Virginia Shaw Burton; three sisters; and six brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Myrtle Ellen Shelton of Newport News; son, Edmund Marcus Blanks Jr. and wife, Kathy of Hampton; five grandchildren, Larry E. Shelton and wife, Anna, Teresa A. Metcalf and husband, Ray, Jonathan M. Blanks, Ryan E. Blanks and Erin E. Workman and husband, Steve; two great-grandsons, Stuart Shelton and Noah Metcalf; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, in Peninsula Memorial Park.
