Carl R. Krueger Football '70 Memorial
One of the worst tragedies of college sports history happened on Friday, Oct. 2, 1970. A plane carrying WSU football players, athletic staff members and team boosters crashed at approximately 3 p.m. on a mountain near Silver Plume, Colo., while en route to Logan, Utah, for a game with Utah State University. Thirty-one people were killed.
Mr. Carl Krueger was one of the 14 players who perished in the crash. He graduated from St. Laurence High School in Oak Lawn, Ill., and wore number 73. There is a memorial placed at the crash site that reads, 'As time goes by, memories fade. But we will never forget…
