Maynard Bradford Farnsworth was born in Verona Township, New York to Bradford Lorenzo Farnsworth (1866-1941) and Emma Bell Goodrich (1879-1970). Maynard's family moved to California and he resided for some time in Watsonville, CA. He later moved to the LA area. He served in the Navy. He later became a firefighter and then a Captain in the fire department. His interests were Chess and astronomy. Although he had, had little education, he later taught himself calculus as he pursued his interest in astronomy. After retirement he joined clubs focused on astronomy, chess and the Atascadero Historical Society. He built many large telescopes which he left to friends after his death. He was married to Helen Day Anstess and they had three children. He was an extremely hardworking man. Photos exist.
