Garland Man Is Killed in Crash

A Garland truck driver was killed Friday night when the pick up he was driving crashed into a concrete bridge abutment just north of Garland city limits on Brand Road.

Wilbert Edward Yancey, 21, Route 1, Garland was pronounced dead on arrival at Baylor Hospital.

Also injured in the accident was Miss Barbara Ann Perkins, 17, 1204 Dent Street and Joe H. Vaden, 21, Route 1, Garland.

Miss Perkins received lacerations of face and arm and suffered possible head injuries.

Vaden received lacerations and was treated at Baylor and released.

The accident occurred at 10:35 p.m.

Funeral services for Yancey will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Miller Road Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Hyles, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Garland Cemetery.

Yancey was born Aug. 29, 1938 in Garland and attended Garland public schools.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sarah Yancey; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett J. Yancey, Garland; two brothers, Thomas Yancey and Ron Yancey, both of Garland; three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Merritt, Garland; Mrs. Virginia Sharp, Greenville; Mrs. Evelyn Pyle, Dallas.
