Funeral services were to be held at the Kirkland AFB Chapel at Albuquerque at eleven o'clock Tuesday morning and the body was to be sent to Washington D.C. for burial in Arlington National Cemetery this (Friday) morning. His mother, Mrs. Anna Cone left Sunday to attend the funeral.
Col. Cone, 48, was born in Caruthersville and attended the local schools, graduating in the class of 1929. He joined the Air Force soon after and later attended Centenary College, Shreveport, La. and the Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kas.
He saw active duty as a pilot in World War II and the Korean Conflict and had received the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit and the Air Medal with Oak leaf clusters. He retired in 1958 at Kirkland AFB after thirty years of service as a full colonel and had lived in Albuquerque for about five years.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Madelyn Rogers Cone of Albuquerque; his mother, Mrs. Anna Cone, of this city; a brother, William F. Cone, of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Paul Howell of Kansas City, Mo.
