The 11-year-old daughter of Swain and Mary (nee Ackerman) Ogden, little Sarah was baptized at the Dutch Reformed Church in Belleville, NJ. She shares her grave and gravestone with her siblings Mary (age 9) and John (age 6). The trio died within days of each other in April 1735, victims of a "fearful pestilence", thought to be diptheria, which claimed the lives of many children in the New England and Mid-Atlantic colonies that damp and chilly spring. Their sandstone stele bears a grim soul effigy of the "winged death's head" type and the inscription "Memento mori".
