Born the 6th of 8 children, Everett Elonzo "Jack" Capps was the son of George Adkins Capps and Ira Belle Sturgeon Capps. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Atkins Capps and Mary Frances Lewis Capps, his maternal grandparents were George Sturgeon and Nannie Hutchinson Sturgeon.
