Peter enlisted in the Union Army at Lebanon, KY and was mustered into Company A, U.S. Colored Troops 108th Infantry Regiment on Aug 9, 1864. His name is engraved on the African American Civil War Memorial, plaque number C-104.

His death notice from the Adair County News, Jan 17, 1912, in the Rowes' X Roads community section:

Peter Bradshaw, an old colored man, died near Esto, January [6], 1912. He was about 85 years old. He was a Federal soldier in the late war, a good old man, and a good farmer here. He leaves behind him a wife and several children, and many friends.
