JOY JEAN BERNHARDT, 87, of Mansfield, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home.

Born May 18, 1923, in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Fred and Alverda (Young) Dinger. She was a 1941 graduate of Hayesville High School. A homemaker, she had worked at Westinghouse and Madison school cafeteria in her younger years and was also excellent with needlework and other crafts. She was a member of the Mayflower Congregational Church where she was active in various capacities. She was an avid bird lover and loved her dog "Peaches." She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Adam Bernhardt, two sons, Ron (Deb) Bernhardt of Baxter, Tennessee, and Jerry (Sandy) Bernhardt of Mansfield, a daughter, Pam (Dave) Porter of Mansfield, five grandchildren, Adam, Aaron, Ethan, Kyle and Tricia; ten great grandchildren; and a brother, William Dinger of California.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Roland Dinger; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Amber Bernhardt.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Gary Wilson. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio or the Mayflower Congregational Church.
