Rose Ann fought a courageous, determined and lengthy battle with cancer, and went home to be with her Lord on February 9, 2011.

If you'd met her, you would have never known she was ill. Rose Ann was, without a doubt, THE most positive person on the face of the earth. She always had an infectious smile, a boisterous laugh, was rarely seen without a huge smile on her face and always wanted to have a good time made even better by having her family and friends share in her happiness.

Her favorite place to meet, talk, laugh, have fun and eat was at Posada's (partly due to the free sopaipillas they offered as dessert). Rose Ann was a true Texan not only in her culinary likes, but also in her unforgettable Texas accent. Rose Ann's heart was bigger than the huge state in which she was born, and she was not afraid to give her love or a listening ear to those who needed both or either.

At the end of 2010, her cousin Rhonda took her on her long-desired trip to Europe, specifically to Italy, in order to see fabulous places such as the Cistine Chapel, painted by the master, Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (usually known simply as "Michelangelo").

Although the trip was cut short by a few days due to Rose Ann's health, it was, nonetheless, a dream which came true through the efforts of her beloved cousin Rhonda, who spent as much time as possible with her. In reality, Rhonda and Rose Ann were actually closer than sisters.

In typical "Rose Ann style," knowing her time was short, along with her beloved cousin Rhonda Reid, she held a "Movin' On Up" party on January 8th, 2011, inviting family and friends alike in the ballroom of the Hilton Hotel in Rockwall, Texas, on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard for food, drink, fun, remembrance and laughs. (This party was her one request as her Christmas present for 2010. Rhonda, their family and friends made it happen.)

The ballroom was, literally, filled to capacity, with standing room only; she had that kind of influence and everyone who knew her loved her.

Rose Ann's family had created presentations accompanied by appropriate music which had the crowd clapping, singing along, laughing and weeping. Never one to worry about being silly, Rose Ann even stood up and performed "The Chicken Dance" along with a few friends and family who were brave enough to do it with her. That was just her way; she made everyone feel good.

Rose Ann was predeceased by her father. She is survived by numerous family members, including her her Mother, Mrs. Trilby Wray, her daughter, Autumn, and her son, Travis. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren, a brother, and her stepdad, her beloved special cousin Rhonda Reid (Texas), her best friend, Sue Colquitt Jones (originally from Texas, now living in Montana with her husband), Janet and Dennis Geddie (Texas), Cindy Ewell Benefield (Texas), Howard High Eagle (Lakota shaman, in Texas), Cindy Malone (originally from Texas), Laura Fisher De la Matyr, me (hopefully) and legions of other great friends.

All of the above individuals met Rose Ann or each other in elementary school, junior high or high school, which shows the wonderful kind of binding-together soul Rose Ann happened to be.

Her concerns for her friends were not that she would be leaving us, but that we would be okay. My last conversation with her consisted of her asking and then demanding that I be okay. That was Rose Ann.

Rose Ann was a devout Christian, and an instrument of Christ's work on Earth. She taught many how to live a good, decent life with a great deal of fun and laughter. This was related frequently at her services by Eddie Schaffer, who officiated. Stories were told which had attendees both laughing and crying.

Rose Ann is now celebrating her new life with her Dad, Jesus and Our Heavenly Father, and has undoubtedly become guardian angel to all of us who were privileged to know and love her, either as family or friends.

Rose Ann is missed by everyone who knew her, and that is, without a doubt, hundreds upon hundreds of individuals. She did so much for so many; she was generous to a fault. Rose Ann never asked for anything in return; hers was a remarkable life very well-lived.

As her son commented at the graveside service: "It snowed the day my Mother was born, and it's snowing today, while we bury her. That's so appropriate." Rose Ann, after all, was born, lived life large and passed away in her beloved Texas, where it rarely snows. Rose Ann never did anything by half measures; she wanted us to know she was okay, and the snow was her sign to all of us.

The snow that day, in Texas, shows what an unusual and special soul Rose Ann was and is.

Rose Ann is buried next to her beloved Dad, Fred, and has happily joined him in Heaven.

Rose Ann has always been on our high school's reunion committee with Rhonda, Cindy E. and Janet. This year's reunion, on July 27th and 28th, will be the first she will not physically attend. However, I have no doubt Rose Ann will be there in spirit; she would never miss a W.W. Samuell H.S. reunion. We're looking forward to your presence, girlfriend! -- Added July 16, 2012

PRAYER OF CELEBRATION FOR
ROSE ANN'S LIFE

~ May today there be peace within.
~ May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
~ May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others.
~ May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
~ May you be content with yourself just the way you are.
~ Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.
~ It is there for each and every one of us.

THE ROSE STILL GROWS
BEYOND THE WALL

Near a shady wall a rose once grew,
Budded and blossomed in God's free light:
Watered and fed by morning dew,
Shedding its sweetness day and night.
As it grew and blossomed fair and tall,
Slowly rising to loftier height,
It came to a crevice in the wall,
Through which there shone a beam of light.
Onward it crept with added strength
With never a thought of fear or pride,
It followed the light through the crevice length,
And unfolded itself on the other side.
The light, the dew, the broadening view
Were found the same as they were before.
And it lost itself in beauties new.
Breathing its fragrance more and more.
Shall claim of death cause us to grieve,
And make our courage faint or fall?
The rose still grows beyond the wall.
Scattering fragrance far and wide,
Just as it did in days of yore.
Just as it did on the other side,
Just as it will forevermore.
