Harry Kale Murphy, 79, Salisbury, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born Aug. 21, 1920, in Hickory, Mr. Murphy was a son of the late Fred F. and Claudia Kale Murphy. A 1938 graduate of Hickory High School, he was partner and co-owner of Inland Lumber Co., Augusta, Ga. He had retired in 1972 from Fiber Industries, Salisbury.

A former president of the Men's Club, Mr. Murphy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Samuel Spencer Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. He was active with the Boy Scouts in his earlier years and served as a flight instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors include wife Christine Roueche Murphy, whom he married Dec. 17, 1944; sons Tom and Rick Murphy, both of Salisbury; daughters Mrs. Allan (Ann M.) Rouzer, Salisbury, and Mrs. Lynn (Jean M.) Lindsay, Jacksonville, Fla.; brother Bill Murphy, Hickory; sisters Mrs. Weldon (Nancy) Sheets and Jane Huggins, both of Hickory, and Clara McCree, Greensboro; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: Funeral mass of resurrection, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas P. Clements. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: Prayer service, 7 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:30.
