Norma Jean McPhail, 18, was a graduate of Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi where she was a Rainbow Girl member. She had completed one year of school at Mississippi College in Clinton MS and had planned to return in the fall.
She and her fiance, J. Ben Beaird, Jr. of Shreveport, were killed in an airplane crash 2 miles south of Shreveport, Louisiana, by the Red River. She was an only child and is survived by her parents, Douglas and Minnie McPhail, of Jackson Miss.; one uncle, Robert Guyles McPhail of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a cousin, Robert W. McPhail, of Byrum, Miss. and two aunts, Ruby Lofton Jennings of Jackson, Miss. and Dorothy Lee Lofton Stewart of Harrisburg, Penn.
