Mrs. Dorthea Andersen, one of the pioneer women of Pipestone County, having lived here for nearly 50 years, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning, October 7, at her farm home a mile and a half north of Ruthton. She had not been ill and died unexpectedly as the result of a heart attack. At the time of her death, she had attained the age of 83 years, four months, and six days. Mrs. Andersen was the mother of Mrs. Celia Krall, Mrs. Hannah Beck, Mrs. Martha Mielke, Mrs. Esther Myers and Harvey Andersen, all of Ruthton. Other surviving children are Mrs. Trena Mielke, of Nicollet, Andrew Andersen, of Sherburne, and Mrs. Annie Allen, of Leslieville, Alberta, Canada.
Dorthea Andersen was born at Dalby, Denmark, May 30, 1858. At the age of 23 years she came to America, and on March 19, 1881, was married to Peder Andersen, at Jamestown, Nebraska. In 1891 they moved to Pipestone County, Minnesota, living at the original home place since settling here. She knew all the hardships of the early settlers, but had been in the best of health, and able to work every day until her death.
Mrs. Andersen was member of the Danish Lutheran church, of Ruthton and the Ladies' Aid. She was known as a home-loving woman, a good companion and a lover of good books and reading.
Surviving her, in addition to the children, are a brother, Christ Hansen, of Fremont, Neb., twenty-seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and a large host of friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Andersen will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Herman Mielke home and at 2:00 p.m. at the Danish Lutheran church with the Rev. Harald Ibsen officiating. Interment will be made in the Danish cemetery.
