Dietz, Elizabeth Margaret (Heberline)
Yuma County lost another of its pioneer homesteaders last week with the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Margaret Dietz. Mrs. Dietz, who would have been 87 years of age on Monday of this week, homesteaded with her husband near Kirk. She died January 4 in a Burlington rest home.
Mrs. Elizabeth Dietz was born in Walte, Russia on January 13, 1877. In 1897 she was united in marriage to Jacob Dietz. Six children were born to this union.
The couple came to the United States in 1899. After living in Nebraska and Brush, (mdp) they homesteaded southeast of Kirk, where they lived until 1945, retiring and moving to Loveland where they were living at the time of Mr. Dietz’s death. Mrs. Dietz had been living in a Burlington rest home since 1961.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob in 1956, twin daughters in 1898, and three grandchildren. She is survived by one son and three daughters, Lena Scruby and Ira Dietz of Kirk, Esther Holstine of Loveland, and Elsie Bader of Boulder; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
While living at Kirk, Mrs. Dietz was affiliated with the Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1945 she ans her husband became members of the First Congregational Church of Loveland.
Funeral services were held at the Kirk E.U.B. Church January 6. Rev. Frank Clark and Rev. Theodore Hampton of Kirk, and Rev. Caley of Seibert officiated at the service. Interment was made in the Kirk cemetery. [Kirk, Co., 4 January 1964]
