Nina Fay Moss was born in Beaumont, Texas to Lucille Melancon Moss and Andrew P. Moss, Sr. She was one of nine children and was only 4 years old when her father unexpectedly died leaving her mother Lucille to raise 9 children alone in the 30's.
She grew up and became a Nurse working in both Houston and Beaumont, Texas. She had 6 children with husband Tommy Joe Lawhon, Sr. She lost her first two boys, Robert Earl and Thomas Joseph at birth.
She and Tommy divorced in 1971 after a 20 year marriage. She never remarried. She died at age 55 in Houston, Texas.
