Robert Lewis Ahrens, 82, of Battle Creek, MI, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born January 22, 1929 the son of Archie Lewis and Ruth Irene (Losey) Ahrens. Robert was a 1948 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He served in the Civil Air Patrol and then the US Air National Guard. He was a truck driver for Associated Truck Lines for 31 years, until retiring in 1991. He also worked with his son, Greg, at Ahrens Contracting for many years. Robert is survived by wife of 49 Years: Merry (Anderson) Ahrens; sons: Charles (Mary) Ahrens, Greg (Dyan) Ahrens, Douglas Ahrens, Mike and Steve; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons; and sister: Shirley (Robert) Broxholm. He was preceded in death by his parents. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and his dogs "Polly" and "Peppy". He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed meeting and talking to people and was active in Boy Scouts. He was a jack of all trades and willing to help anybody with a project. He was formerly a member of the Emmett Rescue Squad.
