Mrs. Gladys Byers, 72, Rainbow Hills Apartments, Bedford, and formerly of Oolitic, died at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 1979, at Bedford Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Greene County on December 9, 1905, to Aesop and Minnie Lynn George, she married Lansing Byers, Sr., on February 11, 1924, in Brownstown, and he preceded her in death October 30, 1972.
Surviving are two sons, Claude and Lansing, Jr., both of Bedford; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; the mother of Bedford; two brothers, James George of Newport News, VA and Charles George of Hampton, VA; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Janet) Conner of Montgomery, AL and Mrs. R. N. (Ruby) Webster of Bedford. She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert, and a sister, Lois Lacefield.
Mrs. Byers was a member of the Oolitic Baptist Church and a retired employee of Dunn Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Richard Kern and the Rev. Richard Tallman officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the mortuary after 6 p.m. today.
