Joseph F. Balowski, 80, of Bronson, formerly of Union City, died Monday, March, 21, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 25, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Assumption Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Richard Fritz officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Bronson American Legion #259. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 from 5-8 p.m., with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., at Dutcher-Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson.
Joseph was born Oct. 15, 1930 in Romulus to John and Mary (Jettke) Balowski.
He served in the US Army, attaining the rank of Corporal and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Balowski had a love of farming, operating his own family farm his entire life. He also drove truck for various trucking companies for many years, most recently for Alco Steel, before his retirement in 2002.
Joseph has spent most of his life in the Union City area, spending only the past three years in Bronson. He attended St. Mary's Church and belonged to the N.R.A. and the Union City American Legion. Joe was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt deer and bear.
He is survived by his sons David (Tracey) Balowski, Ronald (Deborah) Balowski, all of Bronson and Joseph (Connie) Balowski of Lake, his brother George Balowski and his sister Theresa (Floyd) Droulard, all of Flat Rock, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his former wife Arleen (Abercrombie) Balowski of Union City.
Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers Frank, John, Ed, Anthony and Steve Balowski and his sister Marian Stevenson.
