Son of Fred and Louise Breithaupt

Veteran, US Army, WWII

After being severely wounded by shrapnel, Fred spent the last 6 months or so of the war a POW in Germany.

After the war, Fred worked for Coastal States Gas as a well inspector. He and his wife Peggy lived at Corpus Christi and then Freer. They remained childless. When Peggy was invalided in a car wreck in 1960, Fred was devoted to her care. In the days before wheelchair access to public buildings became the rule, he would pick her up and bodily carry her into the bank, the café, etc., so she was able to be out and about rather than stuck at home all the time.

After Peggy's death in 1984, Fred returned to Lavaca County, where he had relatives.

They never did get all the shrapnel out of Fred.
