According to information kindly shared by Steve McDonald, an old letter exists which describes Samuel's grave as being just west of Allen McDonald's, who died in 1887.

A small stone marked "S.M.D." in the cemetery was the likely resting place.

"Madam most worthy of my admiration
after long meditation
and much Consideration
of great Reputation
you possess in the nation
I have a Strong inclination
to become your relation
on your aprobation
of the declaration
I will make preparation
more to my station
to profess my admiration
and if such obligation
is worthy of observation
and I can obtain commeseration
it will be aggrandization
beyond all calculation
of the exultation of you and I"

Letter to Rebecca Reed from Samuel McDonald on Sept 1st, 1851
--- From the collection of Loten McDonald passed to me [Allen Prunty] by Stephen McDonald (Both now deceased)
