Peppy - The Monkey!
As recalled by Kathy:

I don't know what possessed Daddy when he ordered the monkey through the mail - out of a magazine I think. I don't know if anyone ever knew why. Mother thought he had lost his mind! Anyway, I was about 10-11 when we got him and he was so funny.

He did pretty good to be in captivity. Daddy built a tall cage - about 4 1/2 feet tall and maybe 2 1/2 feet wide. Wood and chicken wire. I know I've told you about giving him a bath - the three of us and a plastic laundry basket! He was very entertaining.

He got sick and he died at the vet's on March 23rd, about 1964 or so. I remember the date because it was Daddy's birthday. I have it in my diary, so when I find it, I'll check for sure. I was very sad when he died and the vet buried him there - in Gastonia.

The day he came, he bit our neighbor, Carolyn Blanton, the lady who owned the movie theater in Cherryville, where I saw all the Elvis movies. I don't remember him biting anyone else. He scared a German Shepard pretty badly one day - Peppi jumped on his back and the dog went running away like crazy! We were in the side yard in Gastonia and I can still see it today.

Somewhere we have a photo of me and Sandy with him in a bird cage that we used to transport him in. We have some limited movie film too. He was probably the only thing I ever had that Steve Bass {my cousin} didn't!
