Fred S. Dixson, 85, died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Manor Care in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Fred was born on March 14, 1926 in Des Moines to Fred W. and Virginia (Severin) Dixson. He lived in Des Moines most of his life and worked as a paint sales representative for several companies including Iowa Paint. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II and was a member of Westgate Masonic Lodge, the NRA and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting. He will be remembered as a great story teller.

Fred is survived by three sons, David W. Dixson, Steven Dixson and F. Duke (Melissa) Dixson; daughter, Kelley (Wade) Praeuner; daughter-in-law, Carol Dixson; brother, William Dixson; sister, Charmaine Proctor; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Dixson; second wife, Jo Dixson; son, Michael Dixson and brother, Berkley Dixson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society .
