U.S. Congressman. He apprenticed to learn the blacksmith’s trade and later was successful in agricultural pursuits. Entering politics, he was a member of the Indiana State Senate, (1854-58). In 1879, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-sixth Congress, serving until 1881. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he engaged in mercantile pursuits until his death.
