Mrs. Francis Dickenson Called To Reward Thursday; Lives In Region 48 Years
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Saturday for Mrs. Francis Cecelia Dickenson, 76, pioneer resident of this section of Nebraska, who passed away early yesterday morning at her home 103 Yellowstone. The services will be held - at the home under the direction of the Wells Funeral Home and with Rev. D. S. MacDonald, pastor of the First Christian church, officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.
Mrs. Dickenson came to the vicinity of Antioch, where she and her husband took up homestead land, about 46 years ago. She often recalled her coming there in the fall of the year "the railroad came." Since 1903 she had made her home in Alliance.
Mrs. Dickenson was born in London, England, and at the age of 17 was married to John Tompkins in 1873. The following year she and her husband sailed for America and upon their arrival here they lived for a time near Maynard, Ia. Seven of their eight children were born there. The family later moved to Crete, Neb., and two years later to the Antioch vicinity, when that town was called Reno. Their eight child was born at Antioch.
Mr. Tompkins was employed for a number of years as a section foreman on the Burlington at Antioch and at Eckley. Mr. Tompkins passed away while still an employee of the railroad. In 1899 his widow was married to John W. F. Dickenson. The couple then made their home In Alliance, where Mr. Dickenson passed away in July, 1931.
Mrs. Dickenson is survived by seven sons and daughters. One son, Frank, passed away in 1927. The survivors are: John Tompkins, Sheridan, Wyo.; Mrs. Francis C. McMichael, Alliance; Mrs. C. W. Tillett, Glen Rock, Wyo.; C. R. Tompkins, Dalton, Neb.; Herbert and Ray Tompkins of Alliance and Mrs. George G. Stafford, also of Alliance.
