Alexander Allen, a native of Ireland, passed away at the family farm at Five Mile Creek. He was 81.

Alexander Allen was a farmer and ran the family farm. He was born in April 1825 in Northern Ireland. He immigrated to the United States in 1848 and married Margaret about 1851.

Margaret, Alexander's wife, spent her life taking care of the family and home. She gave birth to ten children but had lost three of them before the 1900 Census was taken. Margaret immigrated to the United States in 1846.

Their son, Alexander G., was born in October 1854 in California. He was a farmer and never married. He owned a farm in Merced County but returned to Big Hill to help Grant and Grace run the family farm. He passed away at age 69 on July 29, 1924 in Tuolumne County.

Their son, William J,. was born in 1858 in California. He worked as a laborer for awhile in Tuolumne County. By 1910, William was married for 15 years but living alone in Turlock, California where he owned his home where he was working as a farm laborer. Eventually he was divorced, and by 1920, he and his brother, James H., were running a farm in Ceres, Stanislaus County, California. They continued to do so through that decade and beyond.

Their daughter, Sarah, had apparently married or passed away before the 1880 Census. She was 5 months old when the 1860 Census was taken.

Their son, James H., was born in June 1862. By 1920, James H. Allen, and his brother, William J. Allen, were running a farm in Ceres, Stanislaus County, California. They continued to do so through that decade and beyond. James remained a single man.

Their daughter, Jane E., was born in February 1864. Jane married John. A. Morgan in 1883. John was born in New York in January 1854. Jane and John had two children. Their eldest child, Kate M., was born in October 1884. Their younger child, Carrie E., was born in September 1892.

Their daughter, Margaret, is a mystery. I am having trouble finding any record of her after the 1880 Census. She was born about 1866. She may have married a man with the last name of Morgan and later a man with the last name of Gallaghaer. If so, she was a widow by 1910.

Their son, Grant S., was born in April 1868. In 1900, Grant and his sister, Grace, were single and living with their parents. Alexander was a farmer, and Grant was a farm laborer.

Their daughter, Mary Carrie Allen, was born September 9, 1871. She married Daniel Cassinella, and the couple lived in Hopeton, Merced County, California, where they farmed. The couple had three children, Russell, Allen and Verna. In 1910 and 1920, Grant, Grace and Alexander were running the family farm on Big Hill.

Grant and Grace were still running the farm in 1930, but Alexander passed away at age 69 July 29, 1924.

Grace passed away December 2, 1931, in Petaluma, California, at age 57.

Grant passed away November 29, 1935, at age 67.

Mary Carrie passed away in Merced County June 10, 1950, at the age of 78 years.
