Doris Stanley Jones, 85, of Jacksonville, died March 14, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville, with the Rev. Eric Jones officiating. Entombment will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.

She and her husband Tommy acquired the then-fledgling Onslow Memorial Park in 1953, at the time only the third perpetual care cemetery in North Carolina. She later co-founded Onslow Memorial Florist, Village Green Nursery, Florist & Landscaping and the first commercial sod farm in Onslow County. From 1948 until the later stages of her dementia, Doris was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, serving on several church committees, and was a member of Eastern Star for more than 50 years.

Survivors include sons, Stanley T. Jones of Richlands and George L. Jones of Jacksonville; brothers, Sherwood Stanley of Mt. Olive, Jimmy Stanley of Garner and Pete Stanley of Smithfield; sisters, Margaret Lee of Smithfield and Maxine O'Connell of Raleigh; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
