Elton M. Arnett, 90, West Memphis, AR, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was born is Keiser, Arkansas. He moved to West Memphis in 1939 and worked for the Federal Compress Company for five years. The next 3 ½ years were spent in the U.S. Navy as an aviation Machinist First Class with 31 months of his service as a Naval instructor. In April of 1946, Elton Arnett opened West Memphis Furniture Company, the second oldest furniture store in West Memphis. Before retiring, he worked for National Trust and Life Insurance Company. He was a member of West Memphis First Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Arnett was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Hause Arnett. He is survived by his daughter, Lynda Wise Arnett of Hughes, AR; his son, Clyde Dean Arnett of Pensacola, FL; Five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The visitation will be Friday, March 18, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis, AR. The service will be Saturday, March 19, 2011 in the funeral home chapel with interment following the service in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, AR. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to West Memphis First Baptist Church: 200 North Missouri Street, West Memphis, AR 72301.
