James Adams 74, life long resident of Johnson county, was found dead in his bed at his home, ten miles southwest of Knob Noster about 7 o'clock Saturday morning. A nephew, George Dillingham who lives near found him. Mr. Adams had lived alone since last Spring. The coroner was summoned and said his death was caused from heart trouble and that he had evidently been dead for several hours. A friend John Bush, a miner in the neighborhood, spent the evening with him leaving about 9 o'clock. He said he had been feeling as well as usual that evening.
The funeral was held Sunday at the home. Burial was in the Ellis Cemetery and the pallbearers were the following nephews, Everett and Hartley Adams, Ray Clear, Alfred Dillingham, Emmett Hayes and Robert Roberts. Mr. Adams was born Sept. 5, 1860 about 2 miles from where his death occurred, a son of Thomas Adams and Jennie Ellis Adams. He leave two sons, J. O. Adams of Vancouver, Washington and G. L. Adams with whom he made his home with his father until last spring. There were two brothers, Tom Adams of Miami, Oklahoma and George Adams of south east of Warrensburg, and the following sisters survive, Mrs. John Dillingham of the home neighborhood, Mrs. Jane Roberts and Mrs. Tom Clear of Knob Noster, Mrs. John Dawson of Warrensburg, Mrs. Walter Hays, Washington, Mrs. Amanda George of California, and Mrs. Annis Ivy of Girard, Kansas. Mr. Adams wife died in 1901. He was a member of the Pleasant Bethel church, uniting with the church at the age of 24 years. His wife preceeded him in death about 35 years ago.
