Manetha Ferguson Blackwell completed her earthly journey on Thursday, March 14, 2002, and has gone home to join her loved ones who have preceded her; her parents, Elsie and Byron Ferguson; husband, Lloyd Blackwell; infant son, Lloyd Alan Blackwell, Jr.; and many others.

She leaves behind son, Richard Blackwell and wife, Karen; grandchildren, Toni Manetha Blackwell, Todd Blackwell and wife, Carolyn, Daryl Spears, and Sheila McInnerney and husband, John; great-grandsons, Chaz Blackwell and Kerry McInnerney; granddaughter-in-law, Angie Blackwell; sister-in-law, Artemus Anderson; former daughter-in-law and confidant, Sylvia Pierce; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Manetha entered this world in Erie, PA September 2, 1904. She attended schools in Pennsylvania, becoming a member of Kappa Alpha Theta in 1923. Mrs. Blackwell married Lloyd Blackwell on Sept 29, 1925. They moved to Houston in 1935 where she was active in Riverside United Methodist and Westminster United Methodist Churches and was currently a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the PEO Sisterhood. Mrs. Blackwell was a resident of the Hallmark Retirement Community for over 20 years and was much loved by those who knew her there. Manetha was a special person who touched many lives through her sense of humor and compassion for others. Her unconditional love for others produced a lifetime free of any stranger.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM Monday, March 18, 2002, in Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
