Charles H. Allender, 80, Farm Resident, Shoots Himself
Charles H. Allender, 80, killed himself at the Allender farm home five miles northwest of Mt. Pleasant Sunday afternoon about 2:20. He had been in failing health and had been despondent since the death of Mrs. Allender April 8 of this year.
Sunday after he finished his dinner, he went into an adjoining room, laid down and then pointed the gun, a revolver, at his head and pulled the trigger. Mr. Allender did not die immediately, but loved only a short time after a physician arrived. The bullet was fired into his head a short distance back of the right ear.
He was born April 19, 1854 and had resided in the Richwoods vicinity his entire life and at that place where he died, the past 32 years.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. L. G. Heater, Lockridge, Mrs. John Kauffman, Wayland, Mrs. H. B. England, Bloomfield, 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. One daughter died in infancy. He and Mrs. Allender had been married 58 years on March 23.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at two o'clock at the Richwoods church.
